NOSA Logistics has been running The SPAR Driver of the Year Competition for 6 consecutive years with each year following a similar format, with a few changes to keep the competitors guessing. The competition is run in each region with the winners in each of the 4 categories, qualifying to compete at the national event, an auspicious occasion not to be missed. Importantly, entry into the competition is achieved through meeting qualifying criteria throughout the year, which are implemented in an effort to raise the day to day driving standards across the group. The final event is a great opportunity to see where driver standards really sit when an incentive is at stake, while taking the same standard back to the regions.

This year, the competition hosted 78 skilled drivers across all regions, taking the challenge of testing their driver knowledge and abilities in theory-based and practical tests, all of which is based on current traffic legislation and road safety regulations. The completion involved the following categories :

Category 1:Pallet Trucks

Category 2:Reach Trucks

Category 3:Rigid Heavy Duty Trucks

Category 4:Articulated Heavy Duty Trucks

After surviving numerous elimination rounds, four men emerged as the regions’ best drivers at the competition finals, held at the SPAR North Rand Distribution Centre, in Pretoria. Although some drivers fell short of winning 1st place categories, drivers are encouraged to participate in the competition annually, boosting the morale of driver knowledge and competence within the SPAR Group. Events like these are important for the driver and transport community, as it creates awareness that drivers are the single most important asset towards a safer and more efficient trucking culture.

And through the effective implementation of the driver project together with the commitment and support from the SPAR logistics and training teams, The SPAR Group continues to achieve its goals related to retail delivery and remains one of the trusted fleets on the road that ensures safer roads for all road users.

NOSA Logistics wishes to congratulate all the winners, participates, training teams and everyone else who makes this event a success each year.

NOSA Logistics’ driver training solutions assist organisations in improving fleet efficiencies by offering a combination of classroom-based theoretical and on-road practical training. These interventions aim to improve driver skills and attitude with the outcome being that drivers also learn how to operate the vehicle correctly and in doing so, decrease tyre and maintenance costs, improve fuel efficiencies and positively impact on their own risk profile.
