Course Introduction

This programme is aimed at candidates who undertake the picking and packing functions within the warehouse. The course content delivered covers picking, packing and stock-taking processes and procedures, the effect that incorrect packing has on the customer and the effect that incorrect picking and packing has on business profitability.

This programme is aimed at candidates who undertake the picking and packing functions within the warehouse. The course content delivered covers picking, packing and stock-taking processes and procedures, the effect that incorrect packing has on the customer and the effect that incorrect picking and packing has on business profitability. 

Organisation specific – determined by warehousing operations conducted by that organisation

The qualifying learner is capable of: 

  • identifying appropriate areas for packing stock 
  • moving stock to and pack stock in an identified location 
  • preventing shrinkage and losses while moving, packing and maintaining stock 
  • maintaining stock in the distribution centre 
  • preparing stock for stock count 
  • counting stock 
  • performing post stock count housekeeping functions 
  • understanding the organisational method for notifying items to pick and the applying of these notifications
  • understanding the effect of incorrect picking on the business
  • understanding the different organisational packing containers and their uses
  • understanding the different stock in the DC/Warehouse, their characteristics and the best methods of packing them
  • understanding the different methods/machinery/equipment for picking in the organisation
  • identifying the different problems that could be encountered when picking stock and to whom they must be reported
  • understanding and applying organisational requirements in respect of tagging/identifying stock/containers with their destination
  • understanding load points and how to choose the correct load point
  • minimising damages when picking, packing and moving stock
  • understanding the impact of damages on the organisation
  • understanding the terms shrinkage & losses
  • understanding the effect of shrinkage and losses on profits and employees
  • understanding causes and preventative methods for shrinkage and losses as applicable to the process of picking stocks
  • understanding common terms and concepts used when picking stock in the DC.

This programme is aimed at pickers, packers and stock controllers/counters within the warehouse.
