Course Introduction

This is aimed at candidates who undertake duties relating to receiving and dispatching operations, including those involving cold storage or temperature-controlled stock. It focuses on safe working procedures, understanding product compatibility, the importance of gaining the correct product knowledge and how incorrect storage and handling can impact negatively on customer relations and company profitability.

This is aimed at candidates who undertake duties relating to receiving and dispatching operations, including those involving cold storage or temperature-controlled stock. It focuses on safe working procedures, understanding product compatibility, the importance of gaining the correct product knowledge and how incorrect storage and handling can impact negatively on customer relations and company profitability.

By the end of the course, learners can understand, explain and apply:

  • product knowledge 
  • product costing and service costing
  • client requirements and market trends in service delivery
  • principles of establishing and maintaining sound client relations 
  • relevant legislation (e.g. OHS Act, Transport Regulations, etc.) facilities and company policies that pertain to packing/   stockpiling, handling, marking and securing of freight 
  • compatibility of product type/categories and the type of decisions required concerning separation of non-compatible products. 
  • appropriate handling equipment, safety equipment, and personal protective equipment in relation to the safe handling and securing of freight 
  • securing techniques and the characteristics of materials used 
  • appropriate actions to be taken in the event of accidents and/or incidents 
  • the ramifications of poor product knowledge 
  • the information sources available to maintain and improve awareness of the need for good housekeeping and health 
  • safety, health and environmental awareness, including hygiene in the workplace
  • identifying goods/freight that requires special temperature control and storage procedures
  • monitoring temperature with reference to freight integrity
  • identifying and rectifying problems with maintaining the correct temperature in a competent manner.

This programme is aimed at any person working in a warehouse or in any part of the logistics’ chain that involves receiving and dispatching stock, including cold storage or temperature-controlled stock.
