PLEASE TAKE CARE – IT’S A ROAD WAR OUT THERE

October 21st: What the heck is going on out there? In the space of just one hour this afternoon, I have received notifications of four crashes in which people have died and been injured. And this excludes other notifications of crashes around the country I received earlier in the day. Here’s what
it looks like, accompanied by various pictures of the different scenes:

2:54pm: Two men were injured after their truck rolled down an embankment off Twins Road in the Waterfall area in Hillcrest, KwaZulu Natal. When ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene, they foundthe truck lying 100 metres down a steep embankment. Two occupants, both men, were found waiting for paramedics by the road after they had climbed the embankment. On assessment, paramedics found the men had sustained moderate injuries. They were treated for their injuries and then transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment. It is believed that the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the road and roll down the embankment. Local authorities were on scene to investigate further.

3:24pm: In a similar crash to the one that took place in the early hours of Thursday when a man died after his bakkie rear-ended a truck on the N1 North before the New Road off-ramp, another man was left critically injured this afternoon when a bakkie rear-ended a truck on the N1 north highway
before the Botha turn-off in Centurion. When ER24 paramedics and other services arrived on the scene, they found a man lying trapped inside his bakkie in a critical condition. Rescue services had to use the jaws-of- life equipment in a 30-minute operation to free the man from the vehicle. He was then provided with advanced life support interventions and then transported to a private hospital for urgent treatment. Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.

3:48pm: Also on the N1, one man has been killed and two others injured when a truck rear-ended another on the N1 south at the N4 turn-off in Pretoria. When ER24 paramedics and other services arrived, they found one man walking around on the scene while the other was found seated in his rear-ended truck. The body of a third man was found lying against the second truck. That one man had already succumbed to his multiple, fatal injuries.

3:54pm: On the N12 direction Kimberley in Warrenton, Northern Cape, a woman has died and eleven people have sustained serious to moderate injuries after a bakkie overturned. Netcare911 paramedics worked alongside paramedics from the Provincial EMS at the scene. One man who was found to be in a critical condition was intubated on scene and transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care. The rest of the injured were stabilised on scene and transported to various hospitals in the area for further medical care. One woman was declared dead at the scene.

Please take care: IT’S A WAR OUT THERE.
